As part of our image quality testing for the Panasonic GF5, we've shot our resolution chart with a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM lens mounted.

Our results from the lab have been compared against the Panasonic GF3, Panasonic G3, Olympus E-PM1, Nikon 1 J1, Sony NEX-C3 and Samsung NX200.

If you view our crops of the resolution chart's central section at 100% (or Actual Pixels) you will see that, for example, at ISO 200 the GF5 is capable of resolving up to around 22 (line widths per picture height x100) in its highest quality JPEG files.

See a full explanation of what our resolution charts mean, and how to read them, in our noise and dynamic range tests article.

Examining images of the chart taken at each sensitivity setting reveals the following resolution scores in line widths per picture height x100:

A combination of the 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor and the Venus Engine achieves higher image quality. With the dedicated circuit, which reads out signals with minimum noise, the level of noise is significantly suppressed and S/N (Signal-to-Noise) value is improved in shooting at high ISO setting. The Multi-step Noise Reduction applies optimum noise reduction according to the brightness of the part of the image. Images recorded in low-lit situations are now dramatically clear.

The DMC-GF5 features outstanding compactness and ease of operation while pursuing high image quality. Panasonic did not compromise in the equipment of camera such as built-in flash. It embraces beautiful stylish round-form body design featuring buttons with glossy finish, ergonomically studied grip and high-resolution 920K-dot LCD. The DMC-GF5 is based on the Micro Four Thirds System that lets you use the versatile lineup of Micro Four Thirds System standard lenses, including the LUMIX G / LEICA DG lenses.
